August 24th: 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii & Herculaneum, 15,000 people die.
August 25th: 1530, Birth of Ivan IV, also known as Ivan the Terrible, he was the 1st tsar of Russia.
August 26th: 1845, Birth of Mary Ann Nichols, she was an English victim of Jack the Ripper. She was born in the city of Westminster. She was Jack the Ripper’s first victim.
August 27th: 1942, Cuba declared war on Germany, Japan & Italy.
August 28th: 1924, British children's writer Enid Blyton aged 27 married editor Major Hugh Alexander Pollock,  who was aged 36.
August 29th: 1898, The Goodyear tire company was founded.
August 30th: 1932, Hermann Goering was elected Chairman of the Reichstag.
