My London Adventure!

My London Adventure!

Part 9: The Tower of London.

Hi! This week I'm taking you to the Tower! This was also the first day out in London on my own! :)

I made my way to Tower Hill on the underground!

I have some info left in my head about the Tower, but not much! So this maybe more photos!

Tower Hill.

Tower Hill is outside of the Tower of London; this is where traitors and criminals were brought to be executed!

War Memorial, near Tower Hill.

Tower of London.

View of the Tower, near the payment office.

Memorial Poppies.

Memorial Poppies.

It was such a privilege to see all the ceramic poppies in the moat. There were so many people from all over the world to see them!

Along the Bank of the Thames.

Thames entrance to the Tower.

Traitors Gate.

The Steps from Traitors Gate.

Prisoners were brought by barge along the Thames, passing under London Bridge, where the heads of recently executed prisoners were displayed on pikes. Queen Anne Boleyn and Sir Thomas More entered the Tower by Traitors' Gate.

The White Tower.

The White Tower is an old keep that was built by William the Conquer during the 11th Century.  The White Tower is also a Concentric Castle.

Inside the White Tower I saw loads of suits of armour that belonged to many different kings, as well as seeing a display of different Monarchs' Swords.

Inside the White Tower is also the Chapel Of St. John.

Ravens.

It is said that if the Ravens left the Tower, then the Kingdom will fall. The Ravens are the guardians of the Tower.

Jewel House.

As many of you may know, the Crown Jewels are kept at the Tower of London.

Unfortunately, I didn't go into the Jewel House as the queue was way too long! I might get to see them next time.

The Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula.

In The Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula there are three Royal Queens buried inside, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard and Lady Jane Grey. All of these queens were executed on the tower green.

There is a marker on the tower green to mark the place where Anne Boleyn was beheaded, but I didn't get a chance to go near, as again, so many people were crowded around it!

Tower Green.

Surgeons House.

Mint Street.

Mint street is where coins were produced. Under the rule of King Henry VIII local production of coins was brought to an end. The Royal Mint became the only authority for the production of coinage.

I also took a visit to the Bloody Tower, but as this is a Child Friendly Blog, I thought it appropriate not to add any photos from there!

Me with a Yeoman Warder. (Known as "Beefeaters.")

I made it my mission to get a selfie with a Beefeater and as you can see mission accomplished!!

Visiting the Tower of London was Fantastic, full of history and lovely architecture!!

I think it seemed appropriate to end wit my favourite photo from my day there. (Also because I never noticed it until I got back to Berwick.)

I managed to snap a pic of Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge!!!

That's it for another week!!

Throwback Thursday!

Throwback Thursday!

Hi again! This week I'm taking you to one of my favourite places in Lancaster!

Without this place I wouldn't have survived university!

Welcome to Williamson Park!

Fountain in the pond!

This park is so lovely and has so many places to explore! Me and Cat spent a lot of time here, mostly in the summer, but sometimes came in the winter.

We could spend a whole afternoon wondering around the different trails that they had to offer.

On this particular day we decided to start of with feeding the ducks!

Cat feeding the ducks!

He's rather friendly!

Mother and ducklings!

The ducks at the park are so people friendly and were taking the bread right from our hands!

Mr Robin in the Summer???

In the park, they also have a kids play park, café and a Butterfly house!

So we decided to pay a visit inside the butterfly house.

Mr Turtle!

Axolotl

Mr Finch!

The Park's Cat.

The Park is so peaceful and a great place to go and relax and even escape from the real world around you!

All in all it was a great day we had and the night out was just as good! But I'll leave that for another week! ;)

See you next week!

Bucket List!

Bucket List!

Here we are again, the weeks are passing so quickly!

36.) See the Pyramids of Giza. As you'll have previously seen, I want to see the Sphinx, so why not do the full tour of Egyptian history and see the pyramids too!

37.)Visit New Zealand. Again from a previous post I said I want to visit Hobbiton, therefore a tour of NZ has to happen too!

38.) Visit Shakespeare's Birth Place. This one I have completed. as mentioned in my previous post, I Visited Stratford back in May 2010. And it was my choice of destination, so off we went!

House where Shakespeare was born!

39.) Go Rock Climbing. I have already done this in my childhood, but never as an adult! So I want to go an test my strength and my head for heights!

40.) Have my own House. I think many people will have the dream to have their own house. For me I would love to own my own hoe. If I have to rent for most of my life, then so be it! (Also I do love my parents, but one day I will have to move out for the sake of their sanity haha!)

That's it for this week!

My London Adventure!

Part 8: Around London Pt2!

Here we go again! Time for part 2 of the tour around London!

So we were heading off to Trafalgar Square!
(It's amazing how close everything is to each other!)

Nelson's Column.

Bottom of Nelson's Column,

The National Gallery

It was great to stand at the bottom of Nelson's Column. Also to stand outside the National Gallery was great! (On my next visit, I'll be taking a visit inside the Gallery!)

From here we carried on to the Mall but didn't go to Buckingham Palace, we headed for Horse Guards Parade.

Admiralty Arch.

The Guards Memorial.

Statue of Kitchener.

From Horse Guards Parade, we continued on to see Downing Street. (Not sure why it was on my list of things to see but there you go!)

Downing Street!

I had always wanted to see the Cenotaph, so that was our next destination!

Women of War Memorial.

The Cenotaph.

The Cenotaph.

After, having stood and seen the Cenotaph and paid our respects to all the soldiers who have fallen for us, we moved on to the nearest tube station for our final destination of the day!

We headed to Covent Garden!

I had never been there before! (I also had a blonde moment, I thought it was an actual garden.....DUH!)

Me and Penny sat in the sun and people watched, looked around the market, as well as watching some of the street performers. (Who are amazing!)

Church at Covent Garden!

That's it for another week!!
