My London Adventure!

My London Adventure!

Part 14: The Globe Theatre

Now many who know me well or can guess the type of things I Like, will know how excited I was to be visiting the Globe Theatre! It was like a dream come true!

Seeing inside and standing imaging what it would have been like back in the 16th/ 17th Century is amazing!

The Globe!

Globe Selfie!

When I first arrived I was gawping like some numpty! Just to see it with my own eyes and not from a photo was surreal!

Before taking a tour inside the Globe they let you have a look around the Sam Wanamaker Museum, as he funded the Globe to be reconstructed where it is now. He is also the founder of the Shakespeare Globe Trust.

Model of the Globe

Model of Shakespeare's London.

Costume for a male role.

Costume for a male role.

Costume for a male to play a female.

Cleopatra Costume.

If you notice, when looking at the Cleopatra costume, the shoes are rather big, this was for the male who was taking to role of  the female. (Females weren't allowed on stage!)

Elizabeth I Costume.

Props

Elizabethan Pots.

Instruments used for the Plays.

Unfortunately Sam Wanamaker never to got to see the Globe's final construction as he passed away in 1993. It was opened in 1997.

In his memory there is now a Jacobean indoor theatre called The Sam Wannamaker Playhouse that opened in January 2014.

Wall tapestry

The meeting tree!

Wind machine.

Exhibition Ceiling.

Model of inside the Globe.

After having had a look around the exhibition, I went to the tree(as picture earlier.) and waited for the guide to collect the group for us to go into the Globe!

The Stage!

Seating Stalls.

Shown in the above photo, where the stalls are with paintings on the walls were where the wealthy and rich people sat for the Plays. The Pit next to the stage is where the poorer people stood. They are known as Groundlings, 700 people can stand down there!

The Roof!

Stage Ceiling.
The Ceiling is painted with stars and other paintings, this was used to for all different types of weather etc. for al the different plays.

The main stage also has trap doors, which is usually used to represent Hell.

Also couldn't help my self to have my pic taken in the Globe, which a nice Australian Lady took for me!

Thanks for Reading!
